Grodzka is one of the oldest streets in Krakow, running south from the Main Market Square down toward Wawel Hill. It forms part of the Royal Route, the ceremonial path once taken by monarchs entering the city, and it remains one of the most walked streets in the Old Town.
White Chocolate sits on the other side of the Square, a few streets north at ul. Św. Tomasza 16. For anyone spending the evening along Grodzka - and there are plenty of reasons to - we are a short walk across the Rynek and one floor down.
Crossing the Square
From Grodzka the route is simple: walk north to the Main Market Square, cross it past the Cloth Hall, and continue a few streets to ul. Św. Tomasza. It is one of the more pleasant short walks in the city, particularly at night when the Square empties out.
The whole journey is within the pedestrianised core.
Two Different Evenings
Grodzka and the streets around it are strong on restaurants and early-evening bars, which makes them a natural first half of a night. What they are shorter on is somewhere to settle in properly once dinner is finished.
A private salon in a cellar a few minutes away is a reasonable second half. We open at 20:00, which is roughly when a Grodzka dinner is winding down.
The Wawel Connection
Grodzka ends at Wawel, the castle and cathedral complex above the Vistula that anchors the southern end of the Old Town. Most visitors walk it at least once.
