The Barbakan is the round brick fortress at the northern edge of the Old Town, one of the very few of its kind left standing in Europe. Together with the Floriańska Gate behind it, it formed the main defended entrance to medieval Krakow, and it still marks where most people enter the Old Town on foot today.
White Chocolate is a few minutes south of it. Come through the gate, continue down Floriańska toward the Square, and ul. Św. Tomasza crosses your route. The club is at number 16, one floor below street level behind a discreet door.
The Historic Way In
Walking from the Barbakan through the Floriańska Gate and down toward the Main Market Square is the classic approach to the Old Town, and it has been for six hundred years. It is also, conveniently, the route that passes closest to us.
Św. Tomasza crosses Floriańska on the way down, which makes the club easy to find even on a first visit.
Medieval Above and Below
The Barbakan and the surviving stretch of city wall are the most visible remnants of medieval Krakow. The vaulted cellars beneath the Old Town buildings are the least visible, and there are a great many more of them.
Ours is a working example: brick arches, low ceilings, and a room that has been under this street for a very long time.
Practicalities
The area around the Barbakan is one of the main pedestrian approaches into the Old Town, well lit and busy through the evening.
We open at 20:00 nightly and close between 03:00 and 05:00 depending on the day. Smart dress code, strictly 18+.
