Plenty of venues answer this question with a vague reassurance and then turn people away at the door. That helps nobody, so here is a straight account of when walking in works at White Chocolate and when it does not.
The underlying constraint is simple. We are a small cellar club with six salons and a fixed number of seats. Unlike a large venue, we cannot absorb an unexpected crowd - when the room is full, it is genuinely full.
When Walking In Works
Sunday to Wednesday, in most weeks, you can arrive without a reservation and we will find you a table. This is particularly true earlier in the evening, from 20:00 to around 22:00.
A small group of two to four has a much better chance than a large one on any night. January and February midweek are the easiest period of the whole year.
When It Does Not
Friday and Saturday, especially after 22:00, walking in is a genuine gamble. December is difficult on almost any night because of company parties, and specific dates - New Year's Eve, Andrzejki on 29 November, Halloween, majówka - are effectively fully booked in advance.
A group of more than six arriving unannounced at a weekend will frequently be turned away, not as a judgement but because there is nowhere to seat them.
The Middle Option
You do not need to book days ahead. A phone call at seven or eight in the evening on the same day is often enough to know whether it is worth coming, and takes a minute.
That is the sensible compromise for anyone who does not want to commit early but also does not want to walk across the Old Town for nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Can we come without booking?
Midweek, usually yes, particularly before 22:00 and for a small group. Friday and Saturday it is a real gamble, especially later in the evening.
Which nights are easiest for walk-ins?
Sunday to Wednesday, and especially midweek in January and February, which is the quietest period of the year.
Will a large group be admitted without a reservation?
Often not at weekends. A venue with six salons and fixed seating cannot accommodate a large unannounced group, however willing we are.
Are there dates that are always fully booked?
New Year's Eve, Andrzejki on 29 November, Halloween and the majówka weekend are effectively booked out in advance, and December is difficult throughout.
What is the best compromise?
Call at seven or eight on the evening itself. It takes a minute and tells you whether the walk is worth making, without needing to commit days ahead.
