Whisky in a Vaulted Cellar

A drink that rewards sitting still, in a room built for exactly that.

Whisky is the least suitable drink in the world for a loud room. It wants time, attention and a conversation, none of which survive a venue where you have to lean in and shout. It is a drink for a table, a chair and an unhurried couple of hours.

That happens to be a precise description of what this venue is. A vaulted brick cellar with seated salons, warm low light and a sound level held at conversation volume, which makes it one of the more appropriate rooms in Krakow to spend an evening with a good glass.

The Selection

A considered range rather than an exhaustive one - the bar's approach is to stock things worth drinking rather than to fill a wall for the photograph.

If you have a preference, say so. Telling the bar what you normally drink and what you are in the mood for gets a much better result than reading a list, particularly if you are open to being pointed somewhere new.

The Right Setting

The cellar holds a steady temperature year round thanks to the stone vaults, which is more relevant to a glass of whisky than it sounds. The lighting is low and warm throughout, and the private salons put you somewhere you can hear yourself think.

For a small group who want to sit and talk over something decent, this is the use case the room was more or less designed for.

When to Come

Early, if the whisky is the point. From 20:00 to around 21:30 the room is at its quietest and the bar has the most time to talk to you.

Later the cellar picks up considerably, which is enjoyable in its own right but less suited to a conversation about what is in the glass.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a whisky selection?

Yes, a considered range rather than an exhaustive wall. The approach is to stock things worth drinking rather than to maximise the count.

Can I ask for a recommendation?

Please do. Telling the bar what you normally drink and what you are in the mood for gets a far better result than working from a list.

What is the best time to come for this?

Early, from 20:00 to around 21:30, when the room is quietest and the bar has the most time. Later the cellar gets considerably busier.

Is it quiet enough to actually enjoy it?

Yes, particularly in the private salons and particularly earlier in the evening. Sound levels are held at conversation volume by design.

Is there a full bar as well?

Yes - classics, wine, and the chocolate-led signature cocktails the club is named for.
